The honest answers to the questions you're probably thinking.
Let's Talk. Your Real Questions, Answered.
You've seen the site, but you probably still have questions. The real ones. Here are some honest, no-fluff answers directly from me to you.
About Coaching & Philosophy
Can you guarantee my child will swim in 10 lessons?
No. And we believe any school that "guarantees" that is selling you a gimmick, not a real skill.
We've been in this world a long time, first as an athlete and then as a coach. We've seen the "10-lesson wonders" who are rushed through a checklist. They can perform a sloppy stroke for 10 meters, but they have no foundation, poor technique, and they often quit a year later because they never truly became confident in the water.
We don't do that here. We build the foundation first—the strong kick, the breath control, the balance. It might seem slower at the start, but it's what we believe to build a skill that lasts a lifetime. We're not selling you a 10-lesson trick; we're building your child into a swimmer.
Some of your coaches look young. Are they all as experienced as you?
To be direct, no. Not every coach has 10 or 20 years of experience. We don't believe that's the most important thing.
We don't hire based on age; we hire based on passion, patience, and a genuine ability to connect with people. We can teach a passionate person how to be a great coach. We can't teach a veteran coach how to have passion.
What we can guarantee is that every single coach, regardless of their age, is mandatorily trained in our Dreamer Blueprint™. They live and breathe our "foundation-first" philosophy. They are Dreamers, committed to our way of teaching. That shared methodology is our standard of excellence.
Honestly, how is Dreamers different from your old swim school?
We knew this question would come up, and we think it's fair to answer it. The simple answer is: values.
Our old venture was "successful" in terms of monetary, but over time, our partners and I developed fundamentally different views on what was important. We wanted to build a community and focus on the long-term development of every swimmer. The focus shifted to something else, and I reached a point where I could no longer stand behind the work we were doing.
Walking away with nothing was tough, but it gave us the freedom to build Dreamers. This school is the culmination of everything we believe in. It's the "2.0" vision that we weren't able to accomplish before—a place built on a love for the sport, a commitment to doing things the right way, and a desire to build a community we are truly proud of.
Is all this "Blueprint" and "Philosophy" stuff just fancy marketing?
We get the cynicism. A lot of businesses use buzzwords.
For us, it's the exact opposite. The "Blueprint" is the structure that prevents us from just "winging it" in a lesson. It's the system born from our own failures and successes as competitive athletes. It's the framework that ensures every coach is teaching the same core principles that we know work.
The philosophy is a promise. It's our public commitment to prioritize your child's long-term health over short-term "results," and to build a lasting skill, not just a temporary one. It's the constitution for our entire school.
How is the welfare for coaches at Dreamers?
We believe we're not just nurturing the next generation of swimmers, but also our next generation of coaches. For us, this is not a "job to be fulfilled." It’s a place for passionate people to learn a skill, to become a mentor, and to grow into someone our community respects. It's a human-to-human connection.
We treat our coaches with the same respect and care that we show our students. They are a core part of our future, and we are committed to nurturing each of them to help build a better, more compassionate swimming community.
Can I approach your coach for private lessons without Dreamers getting involved?
We’ve put this question here on purpose because transparency is important.
At Dreamers, we believe in endless possibilities. Before any coach joins us, we lay out the path clearly: they are free to explore their own journey, whether that’s being part of our team or going solo. We are here as their mentors and guides, not just their employers.
That being said, we are all bound by a professional commitment to integrity. We ask everyone—our coaches and our clients—to help each other by making the right choice. If a commitment is made with Dreamers, let's honour that agreement together. If things change, let's have an open conversation about the next steps. Our primary goal is always to work closely with you, the parents, to do what's best for the next generation.
What if my child doesn't seem to "click" with their coach?
Let us know. Immediately. Please do not hesitate or worry that you will offend us.
We get it. Sometimes, things just don't work out. It could be a difference in coaching style, a personality clash, or just a simple lack of chemistry. It’s a journey, and just like with friends, we know we're not going to be a 100% perfect fit for every single person, and we don't aim to be.
Our only goal is for your child to succeed and be happy. If that means making an adjustment, we will do it without any hard feelings. We would much rather you tell us early, so we can find the right fit that will make the lessons more efficient and enjoyable for everyone.
Should we recommend our child to stick with the same coach for years?
This might surprise you, but our honest answer is: usually not.
We know what happens over time. Strong relationships are formed—friendships, mentorships—and it can be incredibly hard to say goodbye. We love seeing those bonds develop.
But our belief, based on our own journeys as athletes, is that to truly grow, you sometimes need a new perspective. After 1-3 years with a fantastic coach, a learner has often extracted the very best from that specific coaching style. To get even better, to break through a plateau, or to adapt to a different way of thinking, it's healthy to step out of that comfort zone and work with someone new.
Our goal is your child's ultimate success, not to keep you with one coach forever. Life is more than just swimming, and we will always wish you the best, even if your path leads elsewhere. We hope we cross paths again, celebrating your growth.
Should my child focus only on swimming and train as many times a week as possible?
Our honest answer is no, not at all.
We believe in swimming as a healthy, lifelong habit, not a grind. We ourselves often swim 3-4 times a week, and sometimes that's just a 20-minute soak with a few casual laps. That consistency is what matters.
But more importantly, life is so much more than just swimming! We will be the first to celebrate if your child finds passion in other activities—taekwondo, tennis, basketball, dance, boxing, you name it. As multi-sport athletes ourselves, we know this is the secret to long-term success.
Even for dedicated competitive swimmers, we strongly encourage them to maintain an active lifestyle outside the pool, especially during their off-season. Training in different sports builds a more balanced body, prevents overuse injuries from repetitive movements, and keeps the mind fresh and recharged. We are here to build a powerful swimming foundation that will support, not restrict, your child's entire athletic journey.
You talk about a "swim tribe" or "community," but my child just has a private lesson. What does that actually mean?
That's a great point. For us, "community" is more than just group classes. It's the shared belief system that connects all of us.
It means the coach teaching your child is supported by our entire team, sharing knowledge and strategies. It means the drills they are doing are part of the same Dreamer Blueprint™ that hundreds of other kids are following. It means having access to our curated gear, our expert blog posts, and future events we plan to hold.
Even in a private lesson, you're not on an island. You are part of an ecosystem where every part is designed to support a single goal: creating a fantastic, supportive, and successful swimming journey for your child.
About Payment
Can we get a free trial?
We are happy to arrange a one-off paid trial session for you. We treat this trial not as a quick demo, but as a full, comprehensive first lesson.
The fee ensures that we can dedicate a professional coach's exclusive time and expertise just for you or your child. It covers their travel and a proper in-water assessment of the swimmer's current abilities and needs. This allows you to get a true and accurate feel for our coaching style and methodology, making it the best way to see if we are the right fit for your journey.
I had a trial class and it didn't work out well. Can I get a refund or another free trial?
We're genuinely sorry to hear that your first session didn't meet your expectations, and we appreciate your honest feedback.
We ask for your understanding that our trial classes are treated like a dedicated session with a specialist, such as a private tutor or a personal trainer. The fee covers the coach's exclusive time, their travel, and the professional expertise shared during that session. For this reason, as the service was rendered, we do not offer refunds on trial classes.
However, our absolute priority is finding the right fit for your child's long-term success. We understand that sometimes the chemistry just isn't there. Please talk to us. We would love to understand what happened and discuss making a change to a different coach who might be a better match for future lessons.
What are your payment terms like?
Once you've had a successful trial lesson and are happy to continue, we make the process simple.
We collect payment upfront for a package of either 8 or 12 sessions. This secures your regular time slot with your chosen coach. All terms, including our cancellation policy, will
Can I pay our coach directly on the day of the lesson?
That's a great question about how we operate. To ensure a professional and secure process for everyone, all payments for lesson packages are made directly to Dreamer Swim Academy upfront.
We fully understand the concern a client might have—what happens if you pay and the service isn't delivered as promised?
This is precisely why you choose to engage with a reputable school like ours. Our system is designed to act as your safeguard. By handling the payments, we take full responsibility for guaranteeing the coach's professionalism and attendance. Should any issues arise, we are here to resolve them for you. This policy is part of our commitment to providing a reliable, accountable, and trustworthy service.
About Dreamers' Coaches Certification
Where do your coaches get their certification?
Our certification process is a comprehensive, multi-layered system that ensures a standard of excellence far beyond a basic certificate.
Step 1: The External Certification (The Prerequisite)
We recognize five official swimming coach certifications as a baseline requirement: NROC, AustSwim, STA, ASCTA, and ASCA. A candidate must hold one of these to even be considered. We see these courses as providing a good foundation in theory and technical assessment.
Step 2: The Dreamers In-House Training (The Practical Application)
This is where we bridge the gap. We know that theoretical knowledge is not enough. All our coaches must pass our mandatory in-house training program, which focuses on the practical, hands-on coaching skills needed in the Singapore context.
Step 3: The Practical Apprenticeship (The Real-World Test)
Before a coach can lead a swim class, they must first work as an assistant in our multi-sport land classes, then assist in our swim programs. They must prove they can command respect and lead a group of children effectively on land before they are entrusted to do so in the water.
This rigorous pathway ensures that when a coach leads a Dreamers lesson, they are not just "certified"—they are proven, tested, and ready.
Who is qualified to teach Dreamers' swimming lessons?
This is an area where we are very different from other academies. Our process for selecting and training swim coaches is multi-layered and rigorous.
Layer 1: The Multi-Sport Foundation. Before anyone can even be considered for swim coaching, they must first pass our foundational multi-sports coaching course. This ensures every potential coach understands the core principles of long-term athlete development. They must also hold current CPR, AED, and Standard First Aid certifications.
Layer 2: The Swim Specialist Selection. From that group, only those who demonstrate a natural aptitude for coaching in an aquatic environment are invited to specialize in swimming. We know that teaching in water carries unique risks, and we are incredibly selective.
Layer 3: The Dreamer Blueprint™ Certification. The selected candidates then undergo our intensive in-house swim coaching course, run by our own head coaching team. Only upon mastering our proprietary methods do they become a certified Dreamers Swim Coach.
This strict, layered process guarantees that your coach isn't just someone who can swim; they are a passionate professional who lives and breathes our unique, effective, and safety-conscious philosophy.
About Condo Swim Coach Registration
How do we go about condo lessons? My management is strict and needs every coach to register.
We completely understand and support that. Many of us live in condominiums ourselves, and we think it’s great that the management team prioritizes the safety and security of its residents. We are 100% on board with ensuring all coaches are properly certified and registered.
Our process is simple and designed to make this easy for everyone.
We treat the very first session as a trial class. For that initial lesson, we ask for your understanding in allowing our coach to visit as your personal guest, with you present on-site. This allows you to ensure you're happy with the coach and our teaching style.
Once you are satisfied and ready to commit to a lesson package, we will then work with you to handle all the necessary paperwork to secure the official coaching pass and permit from your condo management.
If we change coaches, how does that work with our condo's registration rules?
We have a simple and respectful process for this. To ensure the new coach is a perfect fit for your child, we will arrange the first session with them as a "new coach trial."
Once you've given us the green light and are happy with the new arrangement, we will then handle all the necessary communication. We will promptly email your condo management to formally liaise with them about the switch in coaches.
We are fully committed to adhering to all rules and working closely with you and your condo's management and security teams to ensure every step is smooth and compliant.
About Swim Equipment: The Real Deal
What are the most recommended goggles that work for swimming lessons?
We've tried them all—Arena, Speedo, TYR, Decathlon, you name it.
To be honest, for the Singapore context and for an entry-level swimmer, we personally feel TYR makes a great fit. It hits that sweet spot of quality, comfort, and price. You really don't need to get a high-end Arena racing goggle for a 4-year-old just learning to swim. But of course, the choice is always yours. If you need specific advice, just ask.
What swim suit do you recommend for a beginner (3-7 years old)?
This might surprise you. For outdoor pools in Singapore, we're not worried about the heat; we're worried about the cold. On a cloudy or windy day, a cool condo pool can really affect a child's ability to relax and learn.
That's why we generally recommend a short-sleeve or long-sleeve neoprene thermal suit (2.5-3mm) as a starting point. It's a game-changer. It keeps their core warm, allows their body to fully relax, and makes the first step into the water a positive one.
My child hates wearing a swim cap. Any tips?
We understand this completely, and we're fine with that, especially at the start. However, the right cap can make a big difference.
The secret is to avoid the tight, competitive swimming caps. Instead, look for a soft silicone cap designed for leisure swimming. They're much more comfortable. Once a child gets used to it, they'll find it actually protects them from wind and cold, and they can start to feel the cool, streamlined flow of water over their head.
What kind of flippers should we get?
We are huge fans of DMC flippers. We're even in the process of contacting their team to discuss getting them for our swimmers.
They were started by Don, a surfer, and are designed to be soft, gentle, and comfortable, making them perfect for lifestyle swimmers and kids. We've personally tried almost every brand out there, and DMC has the best comfort and the safest texture by far. The sizing also works great, even for a 3-year-old. They are, in our opinion, one of the best out there.
